Thank you for your interest in a rescued cocker spaniel / other small or specialty breed dog.

Adopting a dog through a rescue organization is a lot like adopting a child; there is an application to complete and return (via email), reference to be checked (by us) and a home visit/doggie introduction. There is a nonrefundable adoption donation of $$325 for adults and $425 for puppies 14 months and younger to help offset the costs of the veterinary exam, tests and medicines (both therapeutic and preventative), vaccines, obedience training, spay/neuter, other surgeries and veterinary care as well as the dog's room, board and Play Dates at doggy day care for socialization. Pairs of dogs incur the same, if not  greater, costs to rescue as single dogs. We can not offer discounts for adoptions of pairs.

For the price of your adoption fees, you get (1) the dog (2) all vaccines including Rabies (3) house training (4) spay or neuter surgery and (5) socialization in DoggyDayCare and/or in our foster homes to other dogs, strangers and children. It is easy to see that our fees represent a substantial savings over pet stores and breeders.

We do not ship dogs, ever, so please don't even ask us. We adopt within the state of Arizona only, in order to best keep in touch with the dog throughout its life, and to assist with any issues or emergencies related to the dog's well-being.

Once I have your completed application, our adoption committee will review it.

If your application is approved, we will check your personal and veterinary references, after which we can arrange to do a home visit at a time when the entire household is there. Please know that we are inspecting only for dog safety and happiness, not housekeeping or affluence.

The process from receipt of your application to the adoption award may be accomplished as quickly as a few days or may take as long as a week. We welcome email status inquiries and will reply within 48 hours. Remember, we all have full time jobs and families as well as doggie care responsibilities, so we really appreciate your understanding if we can't get back to you the same day.

Is there anyone in your household who may not be capable of understanding that dogs are to be treated with respect and kindness at all times, and therefore might hit or otherwise be unkind to the dog? If so please explain.

If he/she will be alone for extended periods during the day, exactly how will you arrange for the dog to be safe / have its bathroom needs met/ have some companionship during the time while you are at work?

Do you live in a Single Family Home; Apartment; Mobile/Trailer Home, or Condo? Do you own you home?

If yes, please describe the type of fencing, area fenced, height of fence, type of gate and type of ground under gate (pebbles, desert landscaping, brick or grass).

Do you have a doggie door? If not, why not?

Are you willing to have one installed in your home?

Are you willing and able to modify your daily schedule to accommodate a dog's needs, such as going outdoors into a fenced area or walking on a leash to perform bodily functions at least 4 times a day?    How?

Are you aware of the importance of keeping a dog on a leash or in a fenced area when it goes outside?

Cocker Spaniels, Dachshunds, other small breeds, and all poodles are primarily house dogs. They can be outdoors for short times in a kennel or dog house/shelter with an attached run. They CANNOT be chained or tied outdoors, nor left outdoors in either a yard or a dog run (think of killer bees, for only one danger) alone and unsupervised. Do you agree to these conditions?

There are local ordinance in all areas of AZ pertaining to owning/housing an animal (i.e., leash laws, required vaccinations, dog licenses, etc); what are those ordinances in your area?

Are you willing to keep a collar with a tag bearing the dogs name, with your address, and phone numbers on your dog at all times?

If for any reason, you are unable to keep your dog, will you agree to return it to this adoption center?

Are you willing and able to accept full care, costs, and necessary burdens and responsibility of owning a dog?

Are you aware that veterinary costs can be very high, even into the thousands of dollars for a severe illness?

We believe that people need training to communicate their wishes to their pets in order for the pets to understand what is desired as well as what is unacceptable. Would you be able and willing to obtain obedience training with your dog?

How would you describe your household activity level?
